What is the 80% rule for churches?

A lot of the rules you hear, like 5-3-2, 30-30-30, and 80-20, are really saying the same thing.

Most of what you share should give, not ask.

Scripture, teaching, encouragement, people, and real moments should make up the majority of what someone sees from a church online. Announcements and invitations still matter, but they shouldn’t be the loudest thing in the feed.

When churches flip that ratio, social media starts to feel like a bulletin board instead of a place people return to.

These frameworks are not about hitting exact numbers. They exist to keep promotion from crowding out trust.

When people consistently receive something meaningful, they are far more likely to pay attention when you invite them to take a step.

That is the point behind all of them.
